RENSSELAER - Cesar Martinez, Jr., 55, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Cesar is survived by his wife Flora; children Sarah Marie Martinez and Xavier Romeo Luis Martinez; his siblings Evelyn Moralas, Alfredo (Mercedes Montalvo-Guzman) Guzman, Felix (Evelyn Santos) Martinez, Ramonita (Frank) Alvarado and Belkis Martinez; grandson Xavier Joseph Rodriguez; step-brother Yemar Toro as well as his in-laws Gilberto, Melinda, Gilberto Jr., Lori, Kathleen and Pamela; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Cesar Martinez Sr. and Margarita Guerra and his brother William Matos.
ALBANY – Patricia D. Murphy Cazasta, 89, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at her home.She was born in Albany and was the last surviving of twelve children to Francis P. Murphy and Kathleen McNamara Murphy.Mrs. Cazasta was the widow of Edward Cazasta who passed away in 1985. Later she was the loving companion for more than 20 years to Charles Magee who passed away in 2011.
Patricia spent her career in the insurance business. She earned her NYS Brokers License in 1975 and worked at David Williamson Insurance, Inc., until her retirement in 1993. She loved reading and doing her daily Sudoku puzzles.But, in her own words, what brought her the most joy in life was her children. She was a loving and devoted mother. She was also proud of her Irish heritage and was fortunate enough to be able to enjoy two amazing trips to Ireland.
GLENMONT- Gertrude “Trudy” Adair, 93 of Glenmont passed away peacefully on January 12, 2019 at the Bethlehem Commons at Good Samaritian Village in Bethlehem.
She was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Stang) Weisheit Sr. Trudy was a graduate of Albany High School and Pratt Institute in New York City. She began working at her parent’s grocery store and then at John G. Myers department store. She then spent 35 years at New York Telephone in a management position, from which she retired.
LATHAM- Janice E. Mahar 77, passed away peacefully, Sunday January 13, 2019 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.Born and educated in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel Mae (Hurlbut) Bilisle.
At one time, she worked for many years at Kolber’s Farm Stand in Albany, she then went to work as a cashier for the Albany Parking Authority, retiring in 2009 after 17 years of service.
KATTSKILL BAY, NY - John D. Magrew, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Hospice Care Home in Milford, Delaware. Born and educated in Albany, he was the son of the late John and Josephine (Hayden) Magrew. Mr. Magrew served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked in sales with AMP Special Industries
MENANDS-Sister Helen Edward Dodd, DC died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at St. Louise House in Menands. Sister was 94 years of age and 72 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, August 4, 1924 Sister Helen Edward (baptized Helen Elizabeth) was one of four children born to Edward and Helen Jallon Dodd.
Sister Helen Edward graduated from St. Brendan Diocesan High School, Brooklyn, in 1942. She completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English at St. Joseph’s College Emmitsburg, MD in 1946; her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Catholic University, DC in 1954 and her Master of Science Degree in Maternal Child Nursing, Boston College in 1959.
GLENMONT- Gary J. Weinert, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 4, 2019.
Born in Cleveland, OH he was the son of the late Jack Weinert and Norma Chilewich.
He graduated from Viewpoint Prepatory School in Amenia, NY and the Albany College of Pharmacy. Gary owned and operated several businesses in the Capital District including Klein’s Pharmacy, Lauryn’s Hallmark Shoppe and the Paper Mill Hallmark Store.
ALBANY—Mary Ellyn Bach, 88, passed away January 2, 2019 after a long illness.Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Irene (Fitzgerald) Hurley. She graduated from St. Bridget’s School, Watervliet, Catholic Central High School, Troy Class of ‘48, and Mildred Elley School, Albany, Class of ‘50. She worked for a number of years in the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and later joined her husband in operating Lippman’s Pharmacy in Albany. She was a longtime communicant of The Parish of Mater Christi and an avid sports fan, especially of the New York Giants.
