Tom, Joe, Kathy, Eileen, and Dee,

I received the news of your Mom’s passing last night.  I am so sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts during this time.  Some 40 plus years ago, it was a privilege and blessing for me to have spent so much time in your home at 13 Betwood Street.  Your Mom (and Dad) were always kind, gracious, generous, and loving – not just to me, but to everyone they welcomed into their home.  To this day, I have much respect and love for the Shields family.  Acts of kindness and love, laughter and friendship, even those we forget about, can impact someone for a lifetime and make them better.  That is how I remember the Shields.  We can honor our parents by being a reflection of the faithfulness and love they always gave to us.  And when the fog of heaviness and heartache passes, know that she’s in heaven.  Your Mom is at peace, and may each of you find peace.  So when all is quiet and you are alone, look up and keep the faith.  It is the most important thing.  “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”  2 Corinthians 5:8

To the Shields Family,
Helen was the best of the best and every single memory we have is of her smiling. She was the most wonderful friend to our beloved grandmother Harriet and beyond kind and loving to all in Harriet’s family.  How blessed was everyone whose life paths crossed with hers.
I speak for all of the MacFarlands as we send our love and prayers to you all.
With love,
