ALBANY- Alexander Roy Miller, lovingly known as Alex, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those who cared for him on Monday, June 22, 2026. Born on December 11, 1943, in Burlington, Vermont, Alex was the only child of the late Alexander and Ruth "Sally" Miller.

As a young man, Alex was fortunate to travel extensively with his mother, visiting all 50 states and several countries. These adventures gave him a lifelong appreciation for people, places, and the world around him.

Alex possessed a remarkable gift for music. He enjoyed playing the drums, organ, harmonica, piano, and accordion, sharing his talents and bringing joy to those around him. Music remained a constant source of happiness throughout his life.

For most of his life, Alex resided with his beloved parents, whose love and devotion provided him with a strong foundation. Later, he became a valued member of Warren, Washington & Albany Counties ARC, where he lived and thrived. Alex worked in the ARC workshop for many years before transitioning to Day Habilitation. There, he became a cherished member of the Washtub Band, combining his love of music with the friendships he formed throughout the program.

Alex had a special affection for animals and was happiest in their company. His gentle spirit, warm heart, and kind nature touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a unique ability to make others feel welcome, valued, and loved.

Alex will be remembered for his infectious smile, his love of music, his compassion for all living creatures, and the genuine kindness he shared so freely. To know Alex was to experience a rare and beautiful soul whose presence made the world a brighter place.

Alex was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Ruth "Sally" Miller. He is survived by his devoted godmother and legal guardian, Peggy Coons, and her husband, Howard Coons, whose friendship with the Miller family spanned more than seven decades. Alex was also blessed by the care, advocacy, and friendship of his legal guardian, Lauren Kaplan. Their unwavering love, support, and dedication enriched Alex's life and ensured he was always surrounded by compassion and kindness. Alex also leaves behind his extended family at Warren, Washington & Albany Counties ARC, including the many friends, staff members, and supporters whose lives were touched by his gentle spirit and warm heart. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Wednesday July 1, 2026 at 11:30 am. Online condolences may be offered at danielkeenanfuneralhome.com
