LATHAM – Mary Anne F. (Shea) Balfe, 81, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.Born and educated in Albany, Mary Anne was the daughter of the late Francis Shea and Margaret (Retter) Shea and the loving wife of 58 years of the late William J. Balfe, Jr .Mary Anne Shea Balfe graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy, Albany and Albany Memorial School of Nursing in 1955.She worked as a nurse in doctors offices; as an orthopedic nurse at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, VA, and for many years in the emergency department and other departments at Albany Memorial Hospital where she retired in 2003.She was a board member of Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, a member of NYS Nurses Association, and Auxiliary and volunteer services at Albany Memorial Hospital.She was also a past member of the American Nurses Association, Emergency Nurses Association, Hudson Valley Paramedic Advisory Committee, Clinical Ladder Review Board, and American Healthcare Institute. Mary Anne received the award for VIP of the Year 1993 at Albany Memorial Hospital and was a recipient of the Harriet Bahn Award for excellence in Nursing. She was previously associated with PTA activities, Girls Scouts of America and was active in Church activities. She was also accomplished at crocheting.

Mary Anne continued to volunteer at Memorial Hospital until shortly before her passing.

Mary Anne is survived by her beloved children; William J. (Isabel) Balfe, III, Kathleen M. Balfe and Timothy F. Balfe; grandchildren Lucy Vecchio, Amy (Jonathan) Atwood, William J. (Courtney) Balfe, IV; 8 great-grandchildren Seth, Sierra, Isabella, Maddylynn, Jonathan, Charlotte, Shelby and Liam; great-great grandson Andrew; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, South End Site, 88 Forth Ave. and Franklin St. Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 4-7 pm. Burial will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
