Balfe, William J. Jr.

LATHAM- William J. Balfe, Jr., 82, died suddenly Thursday, October 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Born and educated in Albany son of the late William J. Balfe, Sr. and May (Quirk) Balfe. He was predeceased by his brother Francis Balfe. William was a graduate of the Cathedral Academy and Siena College.Mr. Balfe spent many years in the Insurance Business, Real Estate and other sales activities. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and member of the Colonie Lodge of Elks.He was previously associated with the Boy Scouts of America, the Soap Box Derby, Goodrich School PTA and Optimist Club.

William is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Anne (Shea) Balfe; his beloved children, William J. Balfe III (Isabel Balfe), Kathleen M. Balfe, Timothy F. Balfe; his sister, Rita Luibrand (Charles); cousin Rev. Peter G. Young, Jr.; grandchildren Amy Atwood (Jonathan), William J. Balfe IV (Courtney Wichelns), Lucy Vecchio; eight great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Most of all, William was proud of his Irish heritage. He will be missed by many for his witty sense of humor and kind heart.

The family would like to thank the ER staff at Memorial Hospital and a special thanks to his friends Bob and Sandy Gordon and to his friends at the Old Timers Benefit Hall (OTB).

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Francis of Assisi Church, South End Site,( corner of Fourth Ave. and Franklin St.), where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, NY.
