ALBANY- John T. Barrett, son of the late Raymond and Nora (Horan) Barrett, passed into eternal life after a long illness at St. Peter’s Hospital on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Born in 1943, John graduated from Philip Schuyler High School. He went on to join the Glaziers Local #1272, later becoming Business Agent until retirement. While his sons were young, he enjoyed volunteering at the Whitehall Little League and Babe Ruth, and was a supporter of Albany Pop Warner Football. As a former communicant of St. James Parish, he often volunteered at the annual parish bazaar.
John’s life was dedicated to his family. He was the beloved husband of Frances (Salvo) Barrett, his high school sweetheart and wife of fifty-three years, who was devoted to him in every way. He is also survived by his children: John (Maura) Barrett, Ronald (Julissa) Barrett as well as his five grandchildren: Faolain, Devon (McKenzie Aviza), Seamus, and Tiarnan Barrett and Gisela Barrett. He is also survived by his two sisters, Joan Egan and Patricia Farrigan, and a brother, Thomas Barrett, as well as several nieces and nephews. His brother, Raymond Barrett, sister, Mary Heller, and his brothers-in-law, Vincent Egan and William Wilcox, predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Wednesday, February 8, from 4 to 8 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Avenue, Albany. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, February 9, at All Saint’s Catholic Church, 16 Homestead Street, Albany. The Rite of Committal to follow at Our Lady of Angel’s Cemetery. Albany.
