Benson, Anne C.

ALBANY- Anne Casabella Benson died Tuesday September 28, 2010

at her residence.

Born and educated in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Luciano and Rosalia (Giulianite) Casabella. She also attended SUNY at Albany.

Mrs. Benson was a former Director of Finances for the NYS DSS before retiring in 1986 after 42 years.

She was a member of the RPEA, The Women's Council, Albany Institute of History and Art, The University Club and former President of the National Conference of State Human Services Finance Officers. Anne was an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy, a Communicant of the former St.Teresa of Avila Church, a Eucharistic Minister and

a member of the Church Choir and Rosary Society. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Benson, Jr..; sister of the late Linda DiBiase, Mary Bury, Ellen Brabec, Philip and William Casabella; Aunt of Rosalie Ahl, Rosalie Pitnell; also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand and greatgrand nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Anne was an avid bridge player. She traveled throughout the USA, Europe, China and Japan. She was the communicator who kept the family in touch.

Anne was a faith-filled, happy, compassionate, generous, selfless person. It was a joy to be in her presence.

Anne's family would like to thank her Physician Dr. Richard Lavigne and her care givers Alice Ault, Marcia, Jane and June for their excellent compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 8:45 a.m. from Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Avenue. thence to The Parish of Mater Christi Church, 40 Hopewell St., Albany, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Friday, October 1, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Anne’s name to The Sisters of St. Joseph, 357 Watervliet-Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110 or The Sisters of Mercy, 634 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
