Bloomer, Vernice R.

DELMAR- Vernice R. (Martin) Bloomer,90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 03, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center surrounded by her family.Born in Cornwall, NY, she was daughter of the late Edward and Bertha (Fagan) Martin and graduated from St. Thomas Elementary School and Cornwall High School. Vernice was a very talented dance instructor in the Newburgh area and at Stewart Air Force Base. She was also a ballroom dance instructor at several boarding schools on Long Island. From 1940-1950 she was a dance instructor at the Evelyn Hubble Dance Studio in NYC. Music and dancing was always a big part of Vernice’s life and the lives of her children. For many years, Vernice was involved in an array of activities as a volunteer at St. James Church (St. Francis of Assisi) including the rosary society, bazaar, BINGO, at the school library and also as a “lunch lady”.Vernice was predeceased by her husband, John W. Bloomer. She is survived by her children James (Lori) Bloomer of Stuart, FL and Diane (Doug) Schenk of Delmar; her grandchildren Casey and Corey Bryant, Jayna Schenk, Evan and Kayla Bloomer; her great-grandchildren Lauren and Shaun Carter. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. We hope that Mom is dancing again and we thank her for many years of selfless dedication to her family.We would like to also thank the staff of Good Samaritan Nursing Home for taking great care of our mother and for the outpouring of sentiments while she was passing. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 7, 2014 at 9:15am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave., thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 391 Delaware Ave. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 4-7 pm. Entombment will follow the Mass in the mausoleum of St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
