Albany – Bonita “Bonnie” Volks Noonan, 78, wife of the late Brian M. Noonan, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 28, 2026. Daughter of the late Frank A. Volks, Jr. and Mary Dooley Volks, Bonita was born in Troy, New York and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. She worked for Albany Felt, the NYS Legislature, NYS Tax and Finance, and ultimately retired from the Albany City School District. A longtime communicant of the former St. James Church in Albany, Bonnie later attended mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.
Active with many charities, Bonnie as she was known to family and friends, stood out for her genuine compassion and kindness. Be it strangers, friends, or family, Bonnie was always looking out for others. So many of her dearest friends were met through her devoted work with the Mother’s Association and parents’ groups at her children’s schools and youth sports teams. Her loving, gentle spirit knew no bounds and was never more exemplary than with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Best known as a mother and Nana, she was and will always remain the heart of the family to which she devoted herself. No matter what and no matter where, Bonnie was always there to stand beside you and helped so many weather life’s storms.
She is survived by her daughter Megan Noonan; her son Shawn Noonan (Jamie); grandson Devin Noonan (Danielle); granddaughters Mollie, Isla, and Rory Noonan; great grandchildren William and Emma Noonan; and many nieces and nephews. Bonnie is predeceased by her husband and parents, as well as her brother, Frank A. Volks, III and sister, Marilyn Mulqueen.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar. Bonita will be laid to rest with her late husband, Col. Brian M. Noonan (Ret.) at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Bonita to either the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital, 43 New Scotland Ave., MC 119, Albany, NY 12208 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
