ALBANY-George B. Brophy, 57, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 28, 2016 after suffering a stroke. George grew up in So. Toms River, NJ before moving to Miami, Fl where he managed the disco at the Seagull Hotel. George moved to Albany in 1986 and tended bar at Waterworks Pub, before buying and owning it until early 2000. George continued to tend bar when he decided to change careers,he went to work as a salesman at Fuccillo Kia in Schenectady . Loved by all who came in contact with him George was especially known for his love of animals, big presence, huge heart, extreme generosity and his ability to tell a great story with a tad bit of embellishments. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
George is survived by his two sons; Shaun Brophy (Holly) and Todd Brophy (Nicole); three grandsons; his sisters, Laurie Martello (Kent) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Tara Gant (Skip) of Stroudsburg, Pa, Cindy Contillo (L.J.) of Asheville, NC; his brother Jerry Brophy of So. Toms River, NJ; several nieces and nephews , great nieces and great nephew; special friend and brother Jim Horn “Jimmy Chicken”and his girl Nina.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 7, 2016 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Century House, 997 Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Latham, NY 12110.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s honor to: The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
