Buongiorno, Margaret D.

COHOES – Margaret D. Buongiorno, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Albany, the daughter of Francis and Margaret Dougherty, she was a graduate of Vincentian Institute. Margaret was a longtime communicant of St. James Church, where she was baptized and married. She was active in many church sponsored activities, the Rosary Society, Altar Guild and bowling league. Margaret enjoyed traveling with family and friends, spending winters in Florida, playing cards at the lake in summers and playing games with her friends at the Lodge at Avila Retirement Community.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Charlie Buongiorno; and her sister Frances Ruth Dussor. She is survived by her children Judy Ellison (Robert), Sandra Anderson (Stephen Lewanick), and Nancy Clemente (Thomas); her grandchildren Dorie, Brian, Kyle, Nicholas, David, and Daniel; 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Eddy Village Green for the outstanding care and compassion Margaret received during her stay the past year.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Wednesday, July 5 from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 6, at 10:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
