LATHAM- Rosario J. “Ray” Cardamone, 89, of Latham, died peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2015 with his family by his side while at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. Ray was born in Mechanicville, NY, the son of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Mosca) Cardamone. He was a decorated Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a Military Police Officer in occupied Germany. For many years he was a hard-working and successful owner and operator of a scrap metal and recycling business until his retirement in 1986.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Grace (Bruno) Cardamone; his son, Paul C. Cardamone and his siblings, Frank J. Cardamone, Patrick Pascucci, Victor Pascucci, Rose Lazarus and Anna Moore. Ray is survived by his devoted son, Joseph R. Cardamone Sr. and his wife, Annemarie of Slingerlands and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew (Erika), Michael (Jaqueline), Joseph Jr., Julia Cardamone and her fiancé, Jason Jones; and his treasured great-grandchildren, William and Adelaide.He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition, he is predeceased by his companion of 16 years, Josephine Hennessy who lifted his spirits and gave him a new purpose in life.He is also survived by her children, Joanne (John), Paula and grandson, Evan.

Ray lived a long, rich and fulfilling life with his many friends and family.Ray and his wife, Grace were charter members of the Italian American Community Center and spent many enjoyable years socializing and participating in club activities.In his later years he loved to travel and spent a number of winters in Florida. He was an avid bridge and poker player, he enjoyed playing competitive bocce and spent many peaceful hours fishing.The highlight of his life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ray was a warm, engaging and loving man who will be greatly missed by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 9:00 am in The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St.Burial will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Friday, August 7, 2015 from 4-7 pm.
