TROY- James J. Carr III, of Troy, N.Y. passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on April 16, 1948 in New Bedford, MA. He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1966 and received a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State College in 1971.
Jim "Red" Carr was a true entrepreneur with a keen ability to recognize opportunities and future trends. He was a pioneer in the restaurant boom in downtown Albany in the early '80s and owned many establishments, including Hilary's, Hurley's and McGeary's. He also owned restaurants in Saratoga and Troy.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 25 years - the former Karin J. Kowalchyk - his soul mate and best friend. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA and spending time at their home in Brunswick.
Jim was a friend to many, and will always be remembered for his generous spirit, intellect, sharp wit, sense of humor and his loyalty to his close friends. He was an avid reader and devoted Boston Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife Karin, he is survived by his mother Muriel N. (Romine) Carr of New Bedford, and siblings Diane H. Angelini (Vinnie) of Fairhaven, Frances C. Allen (Paul) of Dartmouth, Cathleen A. Carr-Sharpe (Derrick) of Lawrence, Patrick J. Carr, Sr. (Suzanne) of Fairhaven, Terence S. Carr of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James J. Carr, Jr.
