ALBANY- Charles (Charlie) A. Herubin of Albany passed away on Friday June 20, 2025 at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Charlie was born in Superior, WI on June 18, 1931.
Charlie was educated at Cathedral of Christ the King grade and high school. In 1954, he graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI with a degree in civil engineering. He then served as an officer in the Navy for three years on the US Casa Grande LSD 13.
For 12 years he worked as a civil engineer in different jobs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York State. He was the city engineer in Meadville, PA and Amsterdam, NY. He then taught for 23 years at Hudson Valley Community College in the Engineering Constructive Technology Department. He has published 3 college textbooks on the topics of surveying, construction materials and subdivision design. He wrote eight definitions of nautical material and construction terms for the Academic American Encyclopedia. He has also written several unpublished manuscripts dealing with subjects such as fire, outdoor life, his own memoir and remembrances and other various articles for his family. Charlie enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and "making firewood." For seven years he heated his home with wood he split himself. One of his favorite vacations was visiting the boundary waters of Minnesota and Canada on canoe-camping trips.
Charlie was predeceased by his wife 59 years, Noreen McCarthy Herubin, the Jersey girl he met in Atlantic City. Also predeceased by his brother Robert (Bob) Herubin. He is survived by his children, Margaret (Hank) Czerwinski, Charles (Cynthia) Herubin, Stephen (Terri) Herubin and Kathryn (Karl) Herubin and his grandchildren; Nicholas Herubin, Clare (Schyler) Laux, Leon Bush, Alexandra (Zack Kline) Czerwinski and Julianna Czerwinski, Leo and Max Dunsker, several nieces and nephews and his two sisters, Peggy Reibold of Thousand Oaks, CA and Lucy Hayes of Chicago, IL.
The family would also like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation for taking such good care of Charlie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday June 26, 2025 at 9 am in the Parish of Mater Christi 40 Hopewell St. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Charlie's family on Wednesday June 25, 2025 from 4-7 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave. Albany.
