CLIFTON PARK- Alfred G. Davis, 66 died suddenly, Saturday, October 31, 2015. He fought a long battle involving several illnesses among them cancer attributed to his exposure to Agent Orange while in the Vietnam War. Al was born in Albany, and raised in North Greenbush. He was a 1967 graduate of Columbia High School where he lettered in football and music and received a scholarship to SUNY/Potsdam to pursue his love of music and playing the clarinet. Al served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War, earning several decorations and medals as a member of Company B, 53rd Signal Battalion. His public service continued after the war by joining the US Postal Service as a letter carrier and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers for 34 years. He acted as the NALC Union Compensation Officer for Branch 29 for fourteen years guiding his union brothers and sisters through the process. He retired in 2004.
A proud life member of and past officer of the Tri-County Council Vietnam Era Veterans, Al devoted time and energy to assisting and befriending his fellow veterans .Al had a passion for motorcycles, music, and Cape Cod. He loved the ocean and visited the Cape as often as possible.
Al is survived by his wife of 44 years Christine: his aunt Wanda Scheu of Rensselaer, his sister-in-law Susan Coyne of Abington, MA, his brother-in-law Jeffrey (Donna) Coyne of Malden, MA; his long-time friends Charlotte Scorza of Loudonville, and her son Randy who Al fondly called his “Wurst brother” He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Virginia Scheu Davis in 1995.
His friendship and love for friends and family will forever be remembered. Al will always be “on point”.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 6:30 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with his familyThursday from 4-7 pm.
Burial will take place Friday, November 6, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 11:00 am and form procession to the cemetery..
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Al’s memory be made to the Tri-County Council Vietnam Era Veterans, PO Box 11100, Albany, NY 12211.
