Albany – Edmund (Ed) J. Shaw, age 71, passed peacefully at Ellis Hospital on June 11, 2026, after battling several health issues. Ed was born in Manhattan, NY in 1955 and grew up in West Hempstead, NY, where he graduated from West Hempstead High School in 1973. As an adult he resided in several places including Norfolk, VA; Staten Island, NY; Eatontown, NJ; Bourne, MA; and Oceanside, NY.
Ed proudly served in the US Navy for 22 years and was a 3rd generation military veteran. He retired as a FC1 (Fire Controlman 1st Class) and was responsible for the training, mentoring and coaching of many sailors over a long career. During his career he received numerous accolades including: The Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Navy Battle E Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Ed retired to Albany in 2017; Since then, he enjoyed his retirement and the peaceful and relaxing lifestyle it gave him. During this time, he was an active father, grandfather and was regularly involved in their lives. He cherished spending his free time with his children and grandchildren and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Ed was the son of the late William (Bill) M. Shaw and Jean C. Shaw. He was also predeceased by his brother William Shaw. Ed is survived by his children Kevin Shaw and Tara Goddeau and their mother Patricia Shaw; his son in law Steven Goddeau, two granddaughters Madeline Jean Goddeau and Reagan Bernadette Goddeau; and his sister Mary Ellen DeStefano.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ed's family on Monday June 22, 2026 from 4-6 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday June 23, 2026 at 12 noon in St. Edward the Confessor Church 569 Clifton Park Center Rd. Clifton Park. Interment will be 2 pm in the Gerald B.H.
