Flanders, Beatrice (Byrne)

ALBANY-After a brief illness, Beatrice (Byrne) Flanders, 86, entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Bea was born and raised in Albany in 1931 to the late Andrew and Margaret (Ellis) Byrne. Bea graduated from Cathedral Academy in 1949 and was a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, formerly St. James Church. She was employed with St. Catherine’s Center for Children for 25 years.

Bea had a wonderful sense of humor and her laughter, kind words and gentle ways will be greatly missed. She truly enjoyed her life at home where she resided for 64 years.

Loving mother of Daniel (Lori) Flanders and Susan Flanders; dear sister of Margaret “Peggy” Byrne; grandmother of Daniel (Rose) Flanders and Lindsay (Joseph Scaringe) Flanders; great-grandmother of Joseph Scaringe and Joseph Flanders; godmother of Micki Hesnor. Bea remained good friends throughout the years with Bob Flanders, former husband and father of their children. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Robert Flanders; brother, John Byrne; sister, Mary Rose Walsh and her cousin, Marion Tervay.

The family extends its sincere and heartfelt thanks to Community Hospice for their kindness and compassion shown to Bea and her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bea’s family on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 391 Delaware Ave. where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
