Glenmont - On January 5, 2026, George Bercharlie, 99, of Glenmont, New York, passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital after a short illness. Born on October 27, 1926 and raised on a farm on Bask Road in Glenmont, George was the youngest of nine children born to Abdow and Mary (Monsieur) Bercharlie. George attended schools in the Bethlehem Central School District and proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army as a Recruiter and as a soldier within an amphibian tank division in Monterey California. After returning home, George married the love of his life Eileen Margaret McCann, whom he enjoyed 55 years of marriage.

George was a tireless worker having built several successful careers. He worked on Parker Corning's farm which later became Roach Industries as a Farmhand, worked as a Longshoreman at the Port of Albany, and as a Damage Prevention Contractor for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad, Conrail, and the Boston and Maine Railroad. He was also the proud owner of Center TV, a television sales and service business located in Glenmont for more than 30 years.

George was the devoted father of George James Bercharlie (Mary) and James Thomas Bercharlie (Kimberly) and treasured grandfather (poppy) to James Thomas Bercharlie Jr. (Jodi), Alyssa Nicole Bercharlie, and George Anthony Bercharlie (Tarah), and the beloved great-grandfather to Rory Johnson, Oliver Bean, and Caleb Bercharlie. He is predeceased by his wife, Eileen Margaret McCann and by his daughter, Nancy Lynn Bercharlie. He is predeceased by his six sisters and their spouses, Sallie Jordan (Frank), Julie Heidelmark (Robert), Agnes Sullivan (Arthur), Mabel Kosier (Arthur), Anne Murray (Manley), and Vicky Duggan (Jerry) and by his two brothers John Bercharlie (Jean), and Anthony Bercharlie (Frances). George is survived by his good friend Elaine Kinne, and by several nieces, nephews, and friends. George cared for many dogs over the years including Ladybug and Sadie, and many cats including Penny, Gracie, and Squeaky.

George enjoyed vacationing with his family in Bar Harbor, Maine and Gloucester, Massachusetts, gardening, and taking many day trips with family and friends which included going fishing, eating out, and taking a chance at the casino.
