Georgeann H. Payne

ALBANY- Georgeann Helen Payne, 91, entered into eternal life on Friday January 23, 2026. She was the daughter of the late George A. and Margaret S. Payne. Born in Albany, she lived in the Capital Region all of her life. She was a graduate of School 20 and Cathedral Academy. She was employed by New York State for 40 years. She worked in Taxation and Finance and the Audit Department and many other departments during those years. She retired in 1991.
As a young person she loved to travel and saw most of New York and the New England states plus visiting California, Las Vegas, Pennsylvania and Arizona. She has a dedicated interest in her heritage of the Negro Culture and American Indian. Georgeann loved to raise parrots and dogs. She enjoyed baseball due to the fact her father played with the Negro Baseball League in Albany.
At one time she was the secretary to then Father Howard Hubbard and worked extensively with Father Peter Young at St. John's Roman Catholic Church. She was the first reader at Bishop Howard Hubbard's ordination at Siena College.
She was a communicant of St. John's/St. Ann's Church for many years, later known as St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was an integral part of St. John's/ St. Ann's Outreach Center where she worked in the parish office. Georgeann was at one time Chairperson of the Auction Segment of the Parish Harvest Festival and also participated in many of the center's outreach programs. Georgeann was always donating her famous Baby Basket for the needy at the Christmas Program. Georgeann was an excellent seamstress, designing most of her own unusual clothing. When she retired she started a small home business of Alterations along with creating stunning individual Baby Baskets for sale. Georgeann also loved to work on her computer designing and creating her own fabulous one of a kind greeting cards.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday January 30, 2026 at 11 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church South End Site Fourth Ave. and Franklin St., Albany and may also visit with her friends at the church prior to the Mass on Friday from 10 am to 11 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
