DELMAR- Harry L Allen Jr. Delmar died September 22, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. Born September 19, 1948 at Brady Hospital Albany, NY. Harry was the son of the late Harry L Allen Sr. and Lillian J. (Woods) Allen. Brother to the late Marie (Allen) Trifiletti and Mildred L. (Allen) Mariani. He graduated Bethlehem Central High School in 1966.
He joined the U S Navy in 1967 and was stationed at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard before being stationed with the brown water navy sweeping mines on the Cua Viet River. After his Navy discharge he was a welder, house builder , truck driver and plumber before attending Hudson Valley Community College obtaining an Associates Degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Town of Bethlehem Highway Department for 30 years, retiring in 2010.
He was an avid outdoorsman. Harry enjoyed hunting with his favorite Labradors . Also camping and fly fishing on the Ausable River in Wilmington, NY. He enjoyed Salmon fishing with his buddies in Oswego. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his grandsons, woodworking and just hanging out in his shop.
Harry is survived by his wife of 55 years Sheryl M (Hartzel) Allen, son Jonathan H. Allen: daughter Sara E. (Todd) Shirback and very proud Papa of grandsons Ayden W. and Gavin L. Shirback: Aunts Helen (Allen) Hale, Alberta (Woods) Knauf and many nieces and cousins.
The family would like to thank The Community Hospice for their excellent care during Harry’s illness.
Relatives and friends may visit at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, October 9, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
