Hirt, Edward E. “Eddie”

ALBANY-Edward E. “Eddie” Hirt, 87, of Albany and Vero Beach, Fl., died peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 surrounded by family.

Born in Bronx, NY and educated in Albany he was the son of the late Emil and Eva (Fancher) Hirt. Eddie was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a printer for more than 30 years, retiring in 1993 from Boyd Printing Company. He was also the owner of Eddie’s on the Avenue for 12 years.

Eddie was a member of the VFW and the Elks Club. He enjoyed golf, bowling, cooking, horse racing, and spending time with family. He was also an avid fan of the NY Mets.

He was the husband of 45 years of Janet (Moran) Hirt; father of Deborah Hirt, Claudia Toffel, Edward “Ned” (Judy) Hirt and Matthew Hirt; step-father of Cathleen Owens and Richard (Karen) Covey; grandfather of Justin, Matthew, Anna and Ryan. He is also survived by many nephews and a grandniece. He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen Vecchio, Fred Hirt and Louise Bishop.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Eddie’s family in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Monday, July 11, 2016 beginning at 4 p.m. The evening will conclude with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 10 am in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
