Hofnagel, Matthew L.

ALBANY- Matthew L. Hofnagel, 92, died peacefully Wednesday, June 03, 2015 surrounded by his family at home. Born in Albany, he was raised on a Dairy Farm in Mooers Forks, NY, along the Canadian border. Mr. Hofnagel started work for the NY Central Railroad and retired from Conrail .When he was not working or traveling across the country, surf fishing on the beach at Cape Hatteras, NC or digging clams at Booth Bay Harbor, ME, he could be found sailing on his boat between the Crown Point campground and Port Henry on Lake Champlain.He was a long time member of the First Church of Albany and was an active member of the Railroad Retirement Group.

He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jane (Webb) Hofnagel. He is survived by his sons Matthew (Anne) Hofnagel and Paul (Angela) Hofnagel; grandchildren, Christine (Marshall) Feaster, Matthew, Peter, and Rachel Hofnagel, Debbie, Justin and Caitlin Singh; great-grandfather of his “red haired” sweetheart Elle Feaster; also survived by his caregiver Linda Powell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 at 10 am in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also visit at the funeral home Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 4-7 pm. Interment will follow the service in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, Glenmont.
