Hummel, Richard C. Sr.

GLENMONT-Richard C. Hummel, Sr., 76, died Monday, October 31, 2016 at Albany Medical Center after a long hard fight.

Born in Schenectady and a graduate of Bethlehem High School, he was the son of the late William and Vera (Conrad) Hummel. Richard was a carpenter and worked for Harold Geurtze and Son in Delmar for 35 years. He was also the Maintenance Supervisor for the Town of Bethlehem for 15 years.

Richard was a Past District Chief of the Selkirk Fire District and a 57 year member of Selkirk Fire Company #2.

He loved camping and being with his family. He also enjoyed watching NY Mets baseball and NY Jets football.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lynne (Herchenroder) Hummel; children, Stephanie (Tim) Corbett of Glenmont, Richard (Ruth) Hummel, Jr. of Hannacroix and Steven (Colleen) Hummel of Glenmont; grandchildren, Richard III, John IV, Christopher, Camlynne, Kristin, Lauren, Cortney, Amy, Steven Jr., Melissa, Melanie and Timothy Jr.; siblings, Ernest (Eleanor) Weeks, of Clifton Park, Robert (Barbara) Hummel of Glenmont, Candice (Jim) Young of Glenmont and the late William (wife Geraldine survives) Hummel, Jr.; his canine companion, Hickey; 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Entombment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Richards’s family at the funeral home on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m.
