DELMAR- James Thomas Fuller (Jim), 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Jim was born on January 2, 1941, in Albany, New York to Rolland and Mildred Fuller.
An Albany native, proud Siena graduate, and Delmar resident for more than 50 years, James T. was the former Executive Secretary of the New York State Board of Law Examiners, a role he enjoyed until his retirement in 1997. He and his loving wife, Sheila, raised five children and thoroughly enjoyed their eleven grandchildren all in the capital region. This was an area he loved for its long history, state and local politics, local sports, and golf courses.
To his beloved wife Sheila, he was a devoted husband, partner, political advisor, and source of amusement both intentionally and otherwise. Jim was a loving, supportive, present, and patient father to his five children, who mostly brought him joy. He loved and embraced his role as the “grandfather or Bop” to his eleven grandchildren. Quick to serve up some ice cream as a meal, appetizer or just a fun way to start the day for his grandchildren, he was happiest with the kids. He relished taking them on various outings, teaching them any number of sports, and watching almost all of their games, sharing current events, reading books to and with them, and providing useful and not useful information to all of them daily. He regularly enjoyed pulling them into watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with him. This worked for his competitive side and was a good pulse check on their base of knowledge. He loved nothing more than being in the midst of large family gatherings including regular and repeated whole family vacations to Captiva and Naples, Florida, North Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Islands in Massachusetts. No matter what, it was family first for him, always.
Jim or Skinny, as he was nicknamed from early childhood, had a large, extended group of friends, including many from when he was a young boy in Albany. They spent their time eating breakfasts and lunches at various restaurants while trying to solve the world’s problems, golfing at local courses, attending Siena College basketball games, watching, and attending while always rooting for the NY Giants, making the daily trip to Saratoga Racetrack in August, and enjoying trips to numerous Adirondack lakes.
He is survived by his sister, Helene Wasson, his five children: Kimberly Kubisch (the late Peter), Dan Fuller (Maura), Tim Fuller (Melinda), Susan Gray (William), Mike Fuller (Jessica), and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila, his parents Rolland and Mildred Fuller, his brother Barry, his son-in-law Peter Kubisch, and too many of his close friends. He also leaves behind a pretty bad golf game.
