Joan Hensel Grunwald

ALBANY- Joan Hensel Grunwald, 92, passed away on Friday April 25, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Erma (Brierton) Quinn. Joan was raised in Delmar and attended Bethlehem Central Schools.
In 1953 she graduated from the St. Peter's School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a registered nurse at Schoolhouse Road Pediatrics.
Joan was a communicant of the former St. Teresa of Avila Church.
She was the wife of Robert Ted Grunwald; mother of Robert C. Hensel, Barbara (Ray) Capogna, Mary Pat Smolinski and Thomas D. Hensel; step-mother of Kim Forrester, Kerry (Rick) Rogers, Kyle Grunwald and the late Kurt Grunwald; sister of Patricia Weinert. She is also survived by many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also cherished by by many nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband C. Duane Hensel, Jr.
Joan's family would like to thank her caregivers Michelle Andral, Veronica Stevenson, Jacqueline Bruton, Gina Grant and hospice nurse Gayle McCormack for their loving care and compassion to Joan.

Joan's funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 9:30 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church 391 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Joan's family on Tuesday April 29, 2025 from 4-7 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Ave. Albany.
