DELMAR - John P. Cassidy, "Jack", 100, passed into eternal life on Thursday June 11, 2026 at the VA Hospital with his daughter Jane holding his hand.
Jack was the son of John W. and Helen Engel Cassidy. He was a 1943 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy. The day after graduation, he reported for duty in the US Navy, where he served as a radio operator in the Pacific until the end of WWII. He was called back in 1951 to serve in the Korean War.
Soon after returning from WWII, Jack flirted with a pretty young nurse on a city bus. He and Marion Hogan were married in 1950 and enjoyed 70 years of marriage. They were a "power couple" - their power being their unwavering commitment to each other and their growing family. Jack, a devoted fisherman, always declared Marion as the "the greatest catch of his life."
Jack was a lineman for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for his entire working life - heading out at all hours in blizzards, ice storms, thunderstorms, heat waves - amazingly, always keeping his good natured attitude.
Jack took great pride in his Irish heritage. He was very active in the Ancient Order of Hibernians until his old age, and was voted Hibernian of the year in 1994. He and Marion enjoyed three trips to Ireland, including kissing the Blarney Stone.
Jack and Marion loved traveling to Australia to visit their daughter Jane and her family. During the 30+ years of retirement they had together, they made a special effort to develop deep and meaningful relationships with their grandchildren, a special gift to each that lives on.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved Marion and his sister Mary Ellen Morelli. He is survived by his daughters Joanne (Richard) and Jane, his sons Jack, Mike and Dan (Debbie), 15 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
