ALBANY- Joyce Marie Flanagan died on December 25th, 2025 at the age of 91.
Joyce was born in Boston, the daughter of the late James and Mary Hanley. She is predeceased by her loving husband Daniel J. Flanagan, Sr, as well as her sisters Maureen Ferrandino and Sheila Cahill.
Joyce leaves behind her devoted children Tracy Flanagan, Kathleen (Ruben) Engel, Michael (Janet) Flanagan, Daniel (Susan) Flanagan, and Gregory Flanagan. She is survived by her 7 grandchildren Olivia (Michael) Richmond, Gregory (Maria) Engel, Rory (Peter) Carson, Madeleine Flanagan, Daniel Flanagan III, Jillian Flanagan, and Shea Flanagan. In addition, she leaves 3 great grandchildren Oliver, Lennon and Ruben. She is survived by her dear cousins Skip and Honora, along with numerous nieces and nephews and too many friends to mention. Joyce cherished her lifelong friendship and escapades with Joan Flanagan Radler, Jean Magin Ryan and Kathleen Flanagan Loerzel.
Joyce was a proud Bostonian where she was raised until moving to Albany, graduating from Vincentian Institute. Over the course of her working career, she held many positions rising to Vice President of Norstar Bankcorp.
Joyce and her husband Dan travelled extensively, visiting Portugal, Gibraltar, Morocco, Spain, and The Canary Islands with a very special connection to Ireland, visiting friends and family often. They also loved summering in Cape Cod and the Outer Banks. Like so many of her family, she enjoyed so many happy memories at the family camp on Snyder’s Lake.
She was an avid reader, gardener, and patron of the Arts, especially music. She was a huge advocate of NPR and WAMC, volunteering and sponsoring their efforts and Telethons. She was a proud parishioner at St. John’s St. Ann’s church serving as an Eucharistic Minister and volunteering at the Outreach Center.
Unlike the rest of her family, she was not a fan of the NY Giants but found a way to be a good sport about it (not really).
For Joyce, family came first. For so many, the memories of Christmas night get-togethers at Carroll Terrace will never be forgotten.
Calling hours are Friday January 2, 2026 from 3-6pm at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home 490 Delaware Avenue, Albany. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi (formerly St. John’s St. Ann’s) 95 4th Ave, Albany at 11 am Saturday January 3, 2026.
