ALBANY - Kathleen “Kay” (Kavanagh) Fiorillo, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, with loved ones by her side. Despite her decline in health over the past year, Kathleen’s love for her grandchildren, close friends, penuche fudge/Milky Ways and Sunkist orange soda remained strong, and she was surrounded by an abundance of all until the very end of nearly her 60 years at Sard Road.
Born in Plattsburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Hallinan) Kavanagh. Kay was a graduate of St. John’s Academy and Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Plattsburgh. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science from Russell Sage College and a master’s degree from SUNY Albany. Mrs. Fiorillo was a school nurse/educator at Albany High School and School 16, retiring in 1999. She was a longtime communicant and active volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Parish (St James); a member of the Council of Catholic Nurses and the Albany Public School Retired Teachers Association.
Wife of the late James A. Fiorillo; mother of John C. (Catherine) Fiorillo of Seattle, Anne M. (Daniel) Penna of Albany, Mark S. Fiorillo; grandmother of Galen (Lauren) Murphy; Natalie, Suzanne, Olivia, Madeline, Daniel Penna Jr.; Nicholas and Jack Fiorillo; great grandmother of Jack Murphy; also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sons James T. Fiorillo and Eric W. Fiorillo and her siblings John Andrew Kavanagh, Betty Winegar and Marie Lorraine Walsh.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Kathleen’s family on Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 9 - 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave, Albany. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
The family would like to thank the many thoughtful, kind caregivers and close friends who were by her side to bring her comfort and care during her final year of life and the staff at Hospice St. Peters for their tenderness and warmth.
