Lehner, Shirley L.

GLENMONT – Shirley L. (Farrell) Lehner, 77, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospital.Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Tillie (Sabott) Farrell.Shirley graduated from Albany High School and was employed by NY Telephone as a secretary where she met her future husband Richard Lehner.

They were married on August 23, 1958 and soon after started a family.Shirley devoted herself to raising her three children and making a wonderful and loving home life for her family.Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she made it a special occasion for the entire family by starting many traditions which have continued on with her children and their families, including trimming the tree while enjoying the family “recipe” for egg nog.Shirley’s other passions were cooking and gardening and in later years enjoying all the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Shirley returned to employment at the NYS Dept. of Health Wadsworth Center where she worked for 28 years until 2009 when she retired.She thoroughly enjoyed her time working with the many scientists and support staff at the Wadsworth center and was loved by everyone.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years Richard M. Lehner, her children, Lori A. Lehner, Joanne M. Lehner and her husband Jonathan F. Belinowiz and Richard M. Lehner Jr. and his wife Signe M. Lehner, her grandchildren, Candace Cassidy, and Noah, Caroline and Jonathan Belinowiz. She was predeceased by her sister Eileen (Farrell) Hoellerich.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 3-6 p.m. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.
