DAYTONA BEACH, FL- Norman J. Madsen, 81 died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 31, 2014 with family by his side. Born and educated in Michigan City, IN he was the son of the late Norman S. and Helen (Cashbaugh) Madsen.
Norman worked for the Albany City School District as an accountant in the purchasing office for over 20 years retiring in 1995.
He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Norman was a coach at National Little League and Central Babe Ruth for many years. He owned and raced autos as a hobby for over 20 years. He enjoyed his summers at Camp Woodstock in Berne, NY and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Husband of the late Leslie (Richter) Madsen; father of Terese Bennett and her husband Scott, Sr., Tamara Signer-Holmes and her husband Kevin and Kristopher Madsen and his wife Nancy; grandfather of Scott Bennett, Jr., Kristen (Alonzo) Bennett Roberson, Carrie (Rusty) Bennett, Erin and Kyle Signer, Jon Holmes, Jennifer, Jessica and Jody Madsen. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 8:45 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 4-8 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Those who wish may send contributions in memory of Norman Madsen to Florida Hospital Hospice Care, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 304, Ormond Beach, Fl 32174.
