ALBANY- Janice C. (Probst) Mahar, 73, died February 4, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Glenmont. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Ringler) Probst and graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names. Janice was a Secretary with the NYS Senate for 25 years.

She spent winters in Lakeland, FL and summers in Westport, NY. Janice and her husband Bob shared numerous cruises to the Caribbean and also Alaska, Italy, Greece and Turkey.They also traveled to England, Scotland and Ireland. Janice enjoyed golf with the girls at Shalamar Golf Course in Lakeland, FL. She enjoyed playing cards, rummikub and visiting Disneyworld with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Robert J. Mahar; children Tracy (Jerome) Curran of Glenmont, Bonnie (Michael) Smith of Wayne, PA, Colleen (William) Williams of Albany Robert (Marcy) Mahar of Delmar ; grandchildren J.Joseph and Seamus Curran, Walter Safford, Matthew and Caroline Mahar, and Christopher Smith.

A special thanks to Amanda and Drs. Ami Negandhi and Christian Gasson at St. Peter’s Hospital for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, 2015 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence to The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., at 10:00 am where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 2:00 -5:00 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady Help of Christian Cemetery, Glenmont.
