Mark R. Gebhardt

June 8, 1956 — January 25, 2026

Delmar

DELMAR- Mark Richard John Gebhardt, 69, of Delmar, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 25, 2026, following ongoing health struggles. He was surrounded by the life and memories he built in that home and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Mark was born on June 8, 1956 in Albany, New York, to John Parker & Margaret Stockman Gebhardt. In 1975 he graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, a hamlet which remained his lifelong home until his passing, wherein he raised his family and gave back to his community through his time and contributions to the Bethlehem Memorial V.F.W. Post 3185.

Mark devoted most of his working life to his trade as a butcher, a profession with which he took great pride. For the better part of 50 years, he worked in and around the Capital District, most notably with McCarroll’s Village Butcher, Grand Union/Hannaford, and Price Chopper, as well as a particularly memorable stint bartending at Brockley’s Tavern in the early 1990s. He retired in the spring of 2020 after decades of dedicated service, which was always delivered with an uncommonly friendly and comical demeanor.

In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his son Nicholas Parker Gebhardt, his sisters Mary Gebhardt Geary and Patricia Gebhardt-Bryant, his nephews, James L. Bryant, Jr. and Daniel S. Bruno, his godparents George & Margaret McCarg, as well as their sons, Clifford and George.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife of over 24 years, Karen McCarg Gebhardt, his children, Alexander John Gebhardt and Kerry Gebhardt Bloodsaw (Gabrielle), their mother Jennifer Drew Miller, as well as his first and only grandchild, Gabriel Mark Bloodsaw. The fact that Gabriel was given Mark’s name brought him immense gratitude and joy.

Mark is also survived by his siblings, Thomas Bruno (Sandra), Joseph (Karen) Bruno, John Gebhardt, Jr. (Cathy), Sheridawn Gebhardt Leitch (Robert), his sister-in-law Marie McCarg, as well several nieces and nephews.

Mark will be remembered as a respected face in the Capital District community whose quiet strength and love for those closest to him will not be forgotten. "North Albany Strong"
