Mccartan, J. Kevin

GUILDERLAND- J. Kevin McCartan, 81, died Monday, February 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Born in Albany, he was son of the late Matthew and Mary (McCarthy) McCartan .Kevin graduated from Vincentian Institute and Siena College.He served in the Army and was a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division .He retired from New York State Civil Service Department as a Personnel Examiner after 37 years of service .Kevin was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family at his camp on Lake Luzerne .He also enjoyed traveling with his wife especially on trips to Hawaii, California, Ireland and the Panama Canal .He treasured family trips to Disney with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley (Armstrong) McCartan; children William (Kathy) McCartan of Delmar, Kathleen (John) Wissing of Slingerlands, Colleen (Jeff) Walter of Guilderland and Kevin McCartan of Manlius; grandchildren Erin, Shannon and Billy McCartan, Brian and Kiera Wissing, Luke Walter, Brooke and Drew Harig; his sister Joan (late John) Mosca of Northport, FL and brother, James (Debra) McCartan of Bluffton, SC; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:00 am in Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Westmere. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 4-8 pm at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at the funeral home at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome to attend. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
