MENANDS-Sister Catherine Marie McGranary, D.C. died Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born in Wilmington, DE on February 1, 1920, Sister Catherine Marie, nee Marie Catherine, was an only child of Anthony Joseph and Mary Cecilia (Keefe) McGranary. Marie Catherine graduated from St. Peter and St. Paul High School, Wilmington, DE in 1938. She earned her bachelor’s degree in secretarial science from St. Joseph’s College, Emmitsburg, MD in 1965. She continued her education in Pastoral Care at Boston College.

On October 24, 1946, Sister Catherine Marie entered the Daughters of Charity, postulating at St. Mary’s (Home for Children). Baltimore, MD where she remained for 3 months. In January 1946 Sister Catherine Marie began her year of seminary at Emmitsburg, MD. From there Sister served at House of Providence, Syracuse, NY (1948-1950), St. Martin’s School, Baltimore, MD (1950-1954), Carney Hospital, Boston, MA (1954-1955), St. Ann’s School Bridgeport, CT. (1955-1957), Seton High School Baltimore (1957-1960), St. Peter’s School, Wilmington, DE (1960-1964), St. Joseph’s Provincial House Emmitsburg, MD Postulant – formation (1964-1965) Utica Catholic Academy, Utica, NY (1965-1966), Portsmouth Elementary School, Portsmouth, VA (1966-1969), St. Ann School, Bridgeport, CT. (1969 – 1976), St. James Parish, Johnson City, NY (1976-1980), St. Agatha’s Center, Canastota, NY (1980-1981), Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, PA (1981-1983), St. Joseph’s Parish Holbrook, MA (1983-1984), St. Agatha’s Center, Canastota (1984-1985, St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, NY (1985-1991, St. Vincent’s House, Albany (1991-1992), St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Emmitsburg, MD Docent (1992), Clark House Binghamton, NY (1992-1996), Laboure Center Sister’s Residence, Boston, MA, (1996), St. Agatha’s Sister’s Residence, Canastota (1996-1999), St. Mary’s Sister’s, Rochester, NY (1999-2000), St. Louise House, Albany (2000) and St. Joseph’s Residence, Holbrook, MA (2000-2007).

In 2007 Sister joined the Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House and served there until the time of her death.

Sister Catherine Marie is survived by her cousin, Mrs. Joan Reardon of Wilmington, DE and by her Sisters in Community.

A Wake for Sister Catherine Marie McGranary, D.C. will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at DePaul House Chapel, 96 Menand Road, Albany (Menands), NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the DePaul Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
