SLINGERLANDS- Doris (Nafis) McKee, 94, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Beverwyck Eddy Village Green. Born in Corona, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elsie (Georgi) Nafis. She was a graduate of Malverne High School, Cortland State Teachers College and New York University from which she received her M.A. degree. Mrs. McKee taught physical education at Richfield Springs Central School and was later director of Physical Education in the Suffern Central School District. She also coached basketball and field hockey at the school. During WWII, Mrs. McKee made fishing kits for life rafts used by the United States forces and manned observation towers to spot planes, She was an active volunteer with numerous organizations including the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and Meals-on-wheels. She had been a library assistant, Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, Teasurer of the Tri-Village Nursery School Board, playground director, member of church choirs and president of the Presbyterian women’s groups at two churches. She had also been the FOCUS coordinator of drivers for food pickup. Mrs. McKee enjoyed walking, reading, knitting, crocheting, weaving, aerobics and swimming. She won an aquatics medal in the Senior Olympics. She also enjoyed national and international travel. Mrs. McKee was a member and active volunteer at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, James McKee, Jr. their daughter Nancy and grandson Christopher McKee. She is survived by her four sons; David (Linda) McKee, James (Molly) McKee, III, Peter (Lynne) McKee and John (Robin Orasi) McKee; her grandchildren; James IV and Jennifer (Chris) Hall, Katie Moshier-Suhr (Nick Suhr), Ali (Steve Chamberlin), Rachel, Rebecca and Erika McKee, Chase Chaskey, Zack and Rosie McKee.; great-grandmother of Natalie Moshier, Colin Suhr and Alice Hall. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 262 State Street, Albany on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11:00 am and may also call at the Church prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 am. Inurnment will be Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 am in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, NY.
