ALBANY – Michael Austin Tierney “Mike”, 64, passed away unexpectedly at home in his sleep on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Mike was born in Albany, NY on August 26, 1961. Michael was the beloved son of Margaret (Di Natale) Tierney and the late John (Jack) J. Tierney. He is also survived by his siblings Denise (Tierney) Prokrym, Coleen Tierney, John (Peano) Tierney, niece, Jaime Prokrym, nephew Shann Stallworth, great-niece Cynzia Prokrym, great- nephew Kaysen Stallworth, Aunt and Uncle, Lucy and Salvatore Prudente, Victor and Shirley Di Natale, numerous cousins and many true and steadfast friends; to many to name.
Michael worked with Albany Tile and Marble where he earned his apprenticeship as a tile and mason craftsman. Currently employed for the last decade with Albany County DGS. His work will remain for many decades yet to come. His work will remain impeccable, memorable, and irreplaceable.
Michael was known for several special qualities. HIS SMILE! His ability to fix, craft, or rebuild anything. His willingness to help others, no matter what the circumstances. His love for motorcycles. Mike built his first motorcycle (out of a box) at 16 years old with the help of a few buddies, the bureau’s garage, and in the driveway on Twiller Street. His endless love for animals, (all animals big and small) His kindness and genuine love for people.
There was nothing Mike would or could not do for his mother, his family, and his friends. He had a heart that will be missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Michael’s family from 3 to 6 p.m., followed by a brief service at 6 pm. on Monday June 29, 2026 at Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Avenue, Albany.
