Miller, Loran D.

d. April 11, 2016

ALBANY- Loran Miller, 79, died April 11,2016 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in New York City on November 12, 1936 he was the son of the late Catherine Rooney Miller and Loran Alexander Miller. He was predeceased by his treasured Grandson Sean Murphy. He was the cherished husband of Maureen Miller for 56 years. He was the beloved father of Scott Miller, Coreen and Steve Murphy and Jacqueline and Tom Connolly. He also leaves behind his much loved nieces and nephews; Bill, Kelly, Jen, Sallyann, Jim and Kevin. Loran was a laborer all his life and had various jobs as an Ironworker, longshoreman and truck driver. He was a member of the International Union of Wood Wire and Metallic Lathers in New York City.

Loran enjoyed fishing and time spent with his family. Some of his most cherished times were all of the wonderful laughs and fun he had with his Grandson. He had the exceptional ability to paint a story with his words and humor. Whether it was about; growing up in NYC in the 40’s and 50’s, his time as an ironworker on high rise buildings, or his eventual move to Albany, when he told a story he made it feel like you were there and actually knew the endless cast of characters that he met along the way. He showed us his strength and perseverance many times throughout his life, especially during his recent illness.

The family would like to especially thank Dr’s Wang, Evangelist and Gibbons as well as Dr’s Higgins, Knudsen & Jenann Gregory NP of the Palliative care team at Albany Medical Center. We would also like to thank his incredible nurses: Doreen, Nick, Jen, Melissa and Galen and all the staff on M4 for their skilled care and kindness.

A Funeral service will be conducted by Reverend Kenneth J. Doyle at 7:00 PM Friday April 15, 2016 in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave, Albany. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM prior to the start of the service.
