WATERVLIET- Donald J. Miller, Sr., 84, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Charles H. and Anna (Walsdorf) Miller, Sr.Don was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy. He served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army.
Don was a bookkeeper with the Delaware and Hudson Railroad for more than 30 years. After retiring he enjoyed being with children as a bus driver and aide for the Bethlehem Central School District. He was an honorary member of the Slingerlands Volunteer Fire Company and a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Provincial House in Latham. He was also an avid fan of the NY Mets and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.Don enjoyed his vacation trips to Germany with his brothers Bill and Joe and car trips with his family to visit his children.
He is the father of Donald (Debora) Miller, Jr., Thomas (Linda) Miller Sr., Joan (George) Bell, Margaret Miller, Elizabeth (James) Miller-Guthier and Juliane Miller; brother of William Miller, Henry Miller and the late Charles Miller, Jr. and Joseph Miller; brother-in law of Ann, Jean, Mary and the late Ruth and Idola Miller; grandfather of Tommie Jr., Jessica (Ryan), Timmy, Joshua, Christopher and Rachel; great-grandfather of Lili Wiley; also survived by the mother of his children Joan (Lithgow) Miller; several nieces and nephews, and many friends at Sheehy Manor.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 10 am in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Monday, October 19, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
