ALBANY- Thomas F. “Murph” Murphy, went to heaven on Sunday, October 4, 2015 surrounded by his family at St. Peter’s Hospital. Tom was the beloved husband of Mary Anne (Cooke) Murphy. His parents, Thomas and Mary Murphy, predeceased him.He was an honest, kind and loving Irish man who always had a story to share.He was generous and always there with a helping hand for anyone.
Tom attended Cathedral Academy.He was a proud Teamster in Local 294 who ran a family business with his father.He drove trucks for Dorn’s and McLean’s and later worked in the Albany School District, where he found so much joy in his interactions with the children.
Tom was one of the original members of Holy Cross Church on Western Avenue.He was an active member of the Men’s Association, awarded the first “Man of the Year”, bowled in the church league, drove the parish bus and ushered on Sunday mornings.He remained true to his faith and believed God was there for each of us. He drove the bus for Holy Cross School as well as Blessed Sacrament and St. Theresa’s. He belonged to the Teamsters Local 294 Retirees and American Legion Post 30.For the last 30 years, Tom and Mary Anne spent summers in Crown Point on Lake Champlain.The happiness and comfort he found at the lake gave him strength to fight and remain strong enough to enjoy the summer of 2015.
In addition to his wife Mary Anne he is survived by his adoring children, Mary Anne and John Farrell, Kathleen and Tim Williams, Rosemary and John Menneto, and Tricia and Ray Schaap; his much loved grandchildren Patricia (Peter), Thomas (Lenny). Gregory, Ryan (Alyssa), Caitlin (Tom), Kaile (Zach), Connor (Adrienne), Courtney (Marty), and Taylor.his great grandchildren Addison, Michael, Kaleb, Landon, and Paisley; his sisters Kay (Jack) Donohue, Ellen (late Bob) Carruthers; sisters and brothers in law Joe and Peg Davidson, Frank (late Barbara) Pukis, Richard and Alice Davidson, and Susan Allen; also many nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. He was predeceased by sisters Mary (Louis) Goitz, and Theresa Murphy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Lavigne for his friendship and care.A special thanks to Dr. Parvez Jafri for his kindness and compassion.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 10:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc., 490 Delaware Ave. thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with his family, Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Those who wish may send donations to the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St. Albany, NY 12208.
