Murphy, Frances L.

GLENMONT- Frances L. Murphy, 86, formerly of Albany and Loudonville, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady. Born and educated in Hartford, CT. Miss Murphy was the daughter of the late Daniel William Murphy and Anna (Daly) Murphy. She received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education and Biology from St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford, CT. As a Sister of Mercy, Miss Murphy taught in Parochial schools throughout Connecticut for 20 years before moving to Guilderland in 1970. She taught biology and physiology for twenty years at Guilderland High School before retiring in 1990.

She was a member of NYS Retired Teachers, the Guilderland Retired Teachers and the Albany Obedience Club. She was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Albany. Miss Murphy was very active in the Pet Therapy Program of the Albany Obedience Club Canine Company visiting schools, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She also enjoyed competition obedience trials with her dogs, earning titles in the United States, Canada and Bermuda.

Survivors include her sister, Ruth Murphy of Florida; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel Murphy, Jr. and Robert J. Murphy; her sisters, Alice Murphy-Barrett and Helen Tepperman.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT. Relatives and friends are invited and may call prior to the service from 10 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, Ct.

Local calling hours will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014 in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany from 4 to 6 p.m.
