Nerf, John B. “Jack”

John B. "Jack" Nerf, 83, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Born in Albany, he was son of the late George and Mary Ellen (Leach) Nerf.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Joan (Shanahan) Nerf; daughters Eileen and Lisa Nerf; grandchildren Brian and Christine Cady, and Matthew Martell; brother-in-law Joseph (Barbara) Shanahan; sisters-in-law Joan Nerf and Rosemary (late John) Herbert; his longtime friend Joseph Carey, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Nerf, his brother George Nerf and sisters, Bernadette Nerf and Sr. Mary Patricia Nerf RSM.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a devout man of faith and was often found with his Rosary and prayer book by his side. He was a longtime Parishioner of St. James/St. Francis of Assisi Church. His love for his family was his greatest joy in life. John was a dedicated and hardworking employee of the Albany Port Railroad Commission for over 40 years and the United States Postal Service for over 23 years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 9:15 am from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave. thence to St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 391 Delaware Ave. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home Friday, March 13, 2015from 4-7 pm. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
