ALBANY- Brian McLean Noonan, 74, a retired businessman and husband of Bonita “Bonnie” Volks Noonan, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 23, 2016.
Son of the late Peter E. Noonan and Dorothea “Polly” McLean Noonan, Brian was born in Albany. He graduated from St. James Institute and then Cardinal McCloskey High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. He was a longtime communicant of St. James Church in Albany.
With his brother Peter, he was the co-owner of Aurora, Inc. Insurance Agency. He served as Vice President and then later as President of the company following his brother’s retirement. Brian was devoted to his customers and employees.
He served faithfully for 38 years in the New York State Army National Guard and the United States Army Reserve. He was most proud of achieving command of the 210th Armor Battalion. During his military career Brian received numerous awards and commendations before retiring as a Colonel.
Active in many civic organizations, Brian was most notably a Past Exalted Ruler and Trustee for B.P.O.E. Albany Lodge 49 and a Third Degree Knight of Columbus with Council 173.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bonnie, his daughter Megan Noonan, his son Shawn Noonan (Jamie Mason), and his grandson Devin Noonan. Other family members include his brother Peter Noonan (Maryanne), his sisters Polly “Penny” Rutnik and Pamela Montimurro, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is greatly missed by his loyal companion Bear.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday July 29, 2016 at 9:30 am in Historic St. Mary’s Church on Capitol Hill in Albany. Brian will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Brian to either the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital, 43 New Scotland Ave., MC 119, Albany, NY 12208, or the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY 12204.
