MENANDS- Sister Alexis Paolozzi, D.C., 99, died Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born June 18, 1915 in Utica, NY, Sister Alexis was one of 10 children born to Joseph and Philomena (Coletti) Paolozzi. She was baptized Eliza Marie Paolozzi. Sister Alexis was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph’s College, Emmitsburg, MD where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.
Sister Alexis entered the Daughters of Charity in Martinsburg, W.V., in July 1935. At the time of her death, Sister Alexis was 79 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
After initial formation, Sister Alexis was a teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Baltimore, MD. (1936-1941); St. Paul’s School in Portsmouth, VA. (1941-1951); St. Dominic School in Baltimore (1951-1960); and St. James School in Johnson City, NY (1960-1965). She then taught at St. Charles, Pikesville in Baltimore (1965-1969) and then Sister returned to teaching at St. Mary’s School in Troy, NY, and served as her community’s local superior from 1969 to 1973. Sister Alexis then was missioned to St. Joseph’s School in Brooklyn, NY from 1973 to 1980. After studing at Marillac Provincial House in St. Louis, MO. (1980-1081), Sister then taught at St. Ann’s School in Bridgeport, CT from 1981 to 1986, again serving as local superior. She spent her longest time at St. Peter’s House in Wilmington, DE, serving as Director of St. Peter’s Outreach Services. Sister returned to Troy to serve as a Receptionist at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1999 to 2008. In 2008, Sister began her Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House in Albany, where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Alexis is survived by her many nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Alexis Paolozzi will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at DePaul Chapel at St. Louise House in Menands. A Wake service will be held Monday, January 12, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
