ALBANY-William I. Peltz, 82, died on Wednesday, August 6, at Barnwell Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Valatie, NY.

Bill was born in Boston and grew up in New York and Connecticut. He attended Amherst College, the University of Utah, and Columbia University, where he studied anthropology under Marvin Harris and Morton Fried. Committed to social justice, equality, and peace, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, anthropologist, professor, civil rights worker, community organizer, journalist, documentary photographer and filmmaker, printer, sun dancer, stockbroker, and general rabble-rouser. He was a longtime parishioner at the Episcopal Chapel of St. John the Divine in Champaign, IL, and most recently at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Albany, and was an active member of the Green Party.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Stephen, Elizabeth, James, and Jonathan; and his grandchildren, Ciara, Hannah, Sara, William, Alexander, and Benjamin.

His family would like to thank his many doctors and caregivers, especially Jay Watsky, James O’Brien, Dale Webster, and the nurses and

staff at Barnwell and at Albany Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, at 10am at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 21 Hackett Boulevard, Albany 12208. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Labor-Religion Coalition of New York State or to your local food pantry.
