ALBANY-Steven I. Pflanczer Ph D., 87, died suddenly at home on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Steven was born in Hungary in 1926. He escaped the Soviet occupation in 1956 and fled to Paris where he met his wife, Marta. He and Marta were fluent in six languages and Steven obtained several degrees in Europe and the United States.
Steven spent his entire career in public education at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and as an Associate Professor in the School of Social Welfare, State University of NY at Albany. He retired in 1991 and spent his time writing and publishing volumes of poetry written in Hungarian. He also enjoyed working in his garden with his wife, who died in 2005.
There will be no public wake or services. Burial will be private at a later date in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
