MENANDS-Sister Andree Pige, D.C. died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at St. Louise House. She was 95 years of age and 71 years vocation. Born in Pithivers, Loiret, France in 1919 she was the youngest of four children born to Armand and Juliette (Joly) Pige. She studied in her hometown and entered the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in May 1943 at Neuilly-su-Seine just outside Paris. Sister Andree completed Seminary (novitiate) in Paris and then was missioned to Hospital St. Luc in Lyon, France in 1944 to work as an operating room nurse. When she was 35, Sister Andree requested to be sent to the foreign missions. She was missioned to Canada in 1954. There, she served for 30 years at St. Catherine Laboure Hospital in Coaticook, Quebec until the governmental regulations required her retirement at age 65.
Sister Andree then volunteered at St. Jean Evangelist Parish as sacristan and parish visitor to the elderly. In 2001, Sister was missioned to Montreal where she continued her ministry to the elderly at the Little Sisters of the Poor residence for senior citizens.
Sister Andree joined the Ministry of Prayer in Albany, NY in October of 2006 where she lived until the time of her death.
Sister Andree was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by a nephew and niece who live in France, and her Sisters in Community.
A Wake service will be held on Monday December 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at DePaul Chapel, 96 Menand Road, Menands; there will be a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at DePaul Chapel. Burial will be in the Daughters of Charity Plot at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
