SLINGERLANDS- Geneseo native Richard Michael Vattimo died peacefully on May 29, 2026 at the Beverwyk Nursing Home in Albany, NY, after a long battle Alzheimer's.

Mr. Vattimo was born July 8, 1941 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, the son of the late Raphael "Frank" Vattimo and the late Ruth Mae (Parker) Vattimo.

He grew up in Retsof, attending York High School, where he graduated in 1958. He was a multi-sport athlete playing football, tennis, volleyball, basketball and track and field. He also was awarded a Regents Scholarship.

He attended St. Bonaventure University in Olean, graduating in 1962 with a BS in chemistry. While attending St. Bonaventure, he married his wife of 53 years, the late Antoinette (Luccarelli) Vattimo in 1961.

Soon after graduation, they moved to Cheektowaga and he began working for the Federal Drug Administration in Buffalo. While living on Marrano Drive in Depew, he began working in the laboratory at Hooker Chemical Corporation (later Occidental Chemical) in Niagara Falls and worked his way up to management before retiring in 1999.

In 1986, the family moved to a home on Bowen Road in Lancaster and then to Bristol Harbor outside Canandaigua, before moving to Summerfield, Florida in 2002.

While living in Depew and Lancaster, he served on the Lancaster Board of Education from 1972 to 1989. He was also a long-time member and past president of the Lancaster-Depew Jaycees. He spent many Friday nights standing in the end zone with friends at Foyle-Kling Field watching his sons' games at Lancaster High School.

Mr. Vattimo is survived by three sons, Brian (Casey), David (Gina) and Christopher (Joann); eight grandchildren and several cousins, including double cousin Nancy Lubanski of Leicester.

Visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main Street in Geneseo, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.
