ALBANY- Angelina “Nina” S. Rivers, 80, died Monday, August 15, 2016 at Albany Medical Center. Nina was born in El Paso, TX the daughter of Patricio and Rosario Sarabia. She graduated from El Paso High School and Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. Mrs. Rivers had a varied nursing career having worked in California, Alabama, Texas and New York. In 1963, she moved to Albany and received her BSN and Master’s degree from SUNY Albany. She worked as a Nursing Instructor at Albany Medical Center. Mrs. Rivers retired from the Albany City School District as Coordinator of the LPN program for 18 years and as a School Nurse Teacher. She was awarded the Clifton C. Thorne Award in 1988 for her work as an educator in the LPN Program. Mrs. Rivers was a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, an alumnae of Russell Sage College and SUNY Albany. She was a member of the Home Bureau and active volunteer at Albany Medical Center Auxiliary, the American Cancer Society and Sheehy Palmer VFW Post. Her favorite pastime was sewing and quilting for family, friends and charities on an ongoing basis. She was also a member of several quilting organizations.
Mrs. Rivers was wife of the late Edward G. Rivers. She is the proud mother of Marc (Allison) Rivers and Alison (Fernando) Tovar; grandmother of Jennifer (Dwane) Moulden and Stephanie Tovar; great-grandmother of Devin and Jasmine Moulden and one due in November; and sister of Maria, Bertha, Virginia, Faustino, Jesus Patricio, Gonzalo, Antonio, Frank and the late Jose, Raymundo Tim, Andres, Cristina and Teresa.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 4-7 pm in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, Inc. 490 Delaware Ave.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 22, 2016 at 9:15 am from the funeral home thence to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 391 Delaware Ave. where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Interment will be at 12:30 pm in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
