COLONIE- Louis J. Salvo, 87, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Albany and a graduate of the former Cathedral Academy, he is the son of the late Sebastiano and Domenica (Alberti) Salvo. He lived his whole life in the Capital District and had lived in the Village of Colonie since 1963. Lou was the president of Derson’s Liquor Store in Clifton Park for 30 years.
He was a long time communicant and usher at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Lou and his late wife, Rose, loved to attend West Point football games, and frequent various restaurants. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch with Rose, watching the “action” up and down the street. Lou and Rose loved to travel to any place in New York State and used their daughter’s new addresses as a way of seeing the country from Bakersfield, CA. to various cities in Colorado and Arkansas.
Lou was predeceased by the love of his life, his bride of 58 years, Rose (Trimarchi) Salvo; his sister, Rose Audi and his brother, Salvadore “Sam” Salvo. He is the father of Tom (Susan) Salvo of Clifton Park and Monica (Danny) Stalcup of Fort Smith, AR; grandfather of Jeffrey (Cory Breda) of Colonie, Matthew (Laura) of Greenfield, Corissa of Ballston Spa, Caitlin of Saratoga and Chris (Ginny) Jones of Mayfield; great-grandfather of Thomas Salvo, Mia Butler, Evan Jones and Lissi Weichel; brother-in-law of the late Dr. Frank and Mary Derossi, the late Vincent and Marion Trimarchi; uncle of Benny (Gaeten) Salvo, Mary (Steve) Bjork, Mary (the late William) Wilcox, Frances (John) Barrett, Margaret (Marvin) Goldfarb, Rosemary (Larry) Gagliardi, Louis Salvo, Jerry (Sharon) Salvo, Diane (Gabe) Basil, Charles (Bobbi) Trimarchi, John (Robin) DeRossi, Michael (Nancy) DeRossi, and Suzanne DeRossi.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 6, 2017 at 9 a.m. from the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany thence to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Eagle St. and Madison Ave. where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends may also visit with Lou’s family in the funeral home on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 3 to 6 p.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Lou’s memory to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception,125 Eagle St., Albany, NY 12202-1797 would be appreciated.
