DELMAR- Mary Ann (Cotrofeld) Schmidt, 68, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary (McArdle) Cotrofeld. Mary Ann was a graduate of the former Mercy High School. She was an administrative clerk with the Albany Police Department for more than 30 years.

Mary Ann was a communicant of Historic St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Albany Polish American Citizens Club. She served as a committee person for both the Bethlehem Democratic Committee and the Albany County Democratic Committee.

Mary Ann loved to spend time shopping but her greatest passion was taking care of her family. She was always the “Planner” and the first one to lend a hand to anyone in their time of need.

Beloved wife of 49 years of Robert G. Schmidt; loving mother of Robert G. Schmidt, Jr. and Christopher S. (Jennifer) Schmidt; devoted grandmother of Logan C. and Gabriella D. all of Delmar; godmother of Joseph Ringler, Jr.; sister-in-law of Donald W. and Joanne Schmidt; cousin of Thomas J. Cotrofeld, Jr. of Delmar and Diana Latourette of Florida. She is also survived by many cousins, nephews and her uncle.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of the CCU at St. Peter’s Hospital for their excellent care and for being comforting angels to Mary Ann during her illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Historic St. Mary’s Church on Capitol Hill, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
